Immerse yourself in the seductive charm of Italy and experience la dolce vita with an AITO specialist. Italy is world renowned for its essence of romance, rich culture, passion for cuisine and fine wines, its contemporary fashions and breathtaking landscapes. With regions so diverse as the rolling hillsides in Tuscany, the colourful coastline of the Amalfi Coast and the dramatic scenery surrounding the Lakes, this wonderfully distinct country has the power to leave a lasting impression on all who dare to explore it.

So, what can you do whilst exploring Italy?  The options are endless.  Here are just a few to tempt you.

  • If you’re feeling energetic, try a climb up one of the world’s largest active volcanoes. Mt Vesuvius dominates the landscape over Naples and Mt Etna on the beautiful island of Sicily.
  • Stay in one of the extraordinary Trulli - circular houses made of whitewashed stone that are typical of the Puglia region.
  • No stay in Italy is complete without a trip to the opera - visit Verona during July & August for the annual opera festival held at the exceptional Roman Arena.
  • For the fashion-conscious, where better to get ahead of the trends than in Milan, style capital of the world.
  • Sample classic Italian food and wine with a tour of Emilia Romagna, the gastronomic heartland of Italian Cuisine.

Italy is at its best in spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November) when the scenery is beautiful, the temperatures are pleasant and there are relatively few crowds. The south of Italy enjoys a slightly warmer climate (2-3% hotter) throughout the year. The ski season lasts from December to late March. July and September are the best months for walking in the Alps. Italy's multitude of festivals and traditional events may be a factor in planning your visit. Easter, in particular, is celebrated fervently, and every second town has a festive Saint's day
